As the world becomes increasingly connected via digital technology, children’s access to and knowledge of issues of local, national, and global concern continues to grow, Wintre Foxworth Johnson (School of Education & Human Development; Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education Dept.) provided an overview of what it means to engage in participatory action research with young children.
This session explored the following questions: What complex issues are children capable of discussing? What is the role of research in documenting children’s emergent beliefs and ideologies about societal inequities? How can research elucidate children’s agentic imaginations and possibilities? She further considered the affordances and constraints of engaging in this work during the current political climate.
As always, lunch was provided.
