Digital Health Industry Internship: For Students

Thriving Youth in a Digital Environment and the Society for Digital Mental Health have partnered to create the Digital Health Industry Internship Program, a paid summer internship program that provides graduate students from across the United States with experiential learning opportunities in the field of digital mental health.

These opportunities will enrich the field by exposing students to the industry world and expanding the range of expertise available to our industry partners.

Student FAQ

These internships are open to graduate students from any U.S. university. While there are no restrictions on who can apply, positions will be of greatest interest to students from PhD programs in psychology, health sciences, public health, data science, computer science, and social sciences.

Before applying, please note:

Summer funding: This internship may affect summer research funding provided by your university. Check with your Director of Graduate Studies before applying.
Visa status: International students should confirm that their visa permits them to work the number of hours required by the position.
Program requirements: Confirm with your program that this paid summer internship does not conflict with or replace any required pre-doctoral internship year.

NOTE: The Headstream position is open only to students at the University of Virginia.

Internship positions vary in time commitment, location, and responsibilities, giving students flexibility to find an arrangement that works for them. Hosts work directly with students to shape a role that fits both parties’ needs.

Every internship includes dedicated mentoring, networking opportunities within the host organization, and firsthand exposure to careers in the digital health industry.

Review the position descriptions in the gallery below. Applications are submitted one position at a time, and you will receive a copy of your responses via email after submitting.

What you’ll need to provide:

Brief narratives explaining why you are a strong fit for the position and how it supports your professional goals.
Your earliest available start date (no earlier than the end of your Spring 2026 semester.
How many hours you can work and for how many weeks.
Confirmation that your program and visa status (if applicable) do not restrict you from accepting a paid summer internship
A current CV
A letter of support from your primary advisor, director of graduate studies, or clinical director (details below)

Letter of Support
The letter must be on official letterhead, in PDF format, and signed by your primary advisor, director of graduate studies, or clinical director. It should confirm that you are in good academic standing, that there are no conflicts between this internship and any requirement of your graduate program, and that this internship is not a substitute for any program-required internship year. TYDE has created a template letter to help with this step.

Application deadlines vary by position. Completed applications are routed directly to the internship host, who will review submissions once the deadline passes and contact selected applicants for interviews.

Selected applicants will be invited to interview with the host within two weeks of the deadline. Students who receive and accept an offer will work with their host to build a schedule that works for both parties.

Interns will have opportunities to participate in occasional professional development and community-building sessions organized by TYDE. Internships typically begin in late May or early June and run through August.
