Lunch & Learn: The IRB at UVA

On March 19th, 2026, Stephanie Keister (Senior Post Approval Monitoring Research Educator & Training Specialist, Office of the Vice President for Research) presented exploring common challenges researchers face when submitting a research protocol for IRB approval. The session covered the informed consent process, ensuring research participant privacy and confidentiality in data collection practices, and identifying and mitigating participant risk. Additionally, we reviewed available IRB resources to facilitate a smooth and efficient protocol submission.
