How are you connected to TYDE?
I am TYDE’s Content Creator and Social Media Manager.
What is your research about? What parts of it are the most exciting to you?
My work as TYDE’s social media manager is about growing TYDE as a brand. This could be through creating content, exploring new avenues to raise awareness, or monitoring engagement statistics to guide future content. I most enjoy the balance between strategy and creativity because it gives me the chance to push myself creatively while also applying what I’ve learned in my business and data science classes to real-world statistics and campaigns.
How do you use digital technology in your daily life?
I feel like my use of digital technology is healthy. I enjoy technology a lot, and keeping up with consumer tech is a hobby of mine. In my work, I am constantly looking for ways to improve my workflow– whether that’s through learning how to use project management software, to-do lists, etc. In addition, since I do all my creative work on computers, technology also provides me with a sense of fulfillment. At the same time, I try to stay mindful and step back when I notice algorithms pulling me into unhealthy patterns.
In your opinion, what are the main challenges that young people face navigating the world of digital technology and/or social media?
One of the biggest challenges young people face right now is online dating. More and more people are hesitant to meet others organically, partly because technology has heightened anxieties and encouraged people to stay indoors. Instead, they’re relying on algorithms—designed to keep users on platforms as long as possible—that turn dating into a kind of game. The problem is, while these platforms promise connection, they often leave people feeling frustrated and miserable. I hope for a future where technology facilitates healthy relationships for all people seeking that perfect someone.
