Afsaneh Doryab (Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Systems and Information Engineering) and Teague Henry (Assistant Professor, Psychology and Systems and Information Engineering) will examine the extent to which digital footprints align with youth’s self-reported emotional, physical, and mental status.
Max Larrazabal (PhD candidate, Psychology) will address mental health challenges experienced by emerging adults by conducting a qualitative investigation of their emotional regulation strategies and choices.
Melanie Morse (Clinical Psychology) and R. Emily Gonzalez (Clinical Psychology) will access the feasibility and acceptability of virtual reality (VR) as an intervention for anxious youth.
Paloma Perez (Education and Human Development) and “PIT CREW” (Preventive Interventions Team: Collaborative Research on Engagement and Wellbeing) co-PIs Catherine Bradshaw, Courtney Newman, Candra Skrzypek, Katelyn Birchfield, and Skylar Raynor will create adolescent and caregiver modules for their Coping Power curriculum.
Abigail Scholer (Professor, Public Policy and Psychology) will explore digital detoxing in youth, primarily examining the trade-offs and consequences of abstinence verses moderation in social media use.
Lora Henderson Smith (Assistant Professor, Education and Human Development), Moira Smith (MD, MPH, UVA Health), and Afsaneh Doryab (Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Systems and Information Engineering) will contribute to the research and development of a mobile psychoeducation app to support adolescents returning to school after an emergency department visit.
Aiying Zhang (Assistant Professor, School of Data Science) and co-PIs Jundong Li (Assistant Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering) and Stefanie Sequeira (Assistant Professor, Psychology) will explore pre-existing date from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study as it applies to the causal relationship between youth screen time and mental health.
