This summer, TYDE and the Society of Digital Mental Health kicked off our first year of the Digital Health Industry Internship program. We managed to place ten talented interns from UVA and schools all across the country with seven different companies. Our partner organizations included everything from established international healthcare providers to a startup social media platform.
We were struck by the size of the response to the internship opportunity: more than seventy graduate students applied from dozens of schools all across the country. After a competitive review process, our mentors selected the finalists for paid, largely virtual, internship positions. These interns got to put their training–from clinical psychology to data science–to real use on actual company projects, all while getting mentorship and professional development along the way.
We also teamed up with Therapists in Tech to put together a bi-weekly speaker series. We brought in professionals who’d made the leap from research to industry and were thriving in roles like Clinical Product Lead, Chief Data Scientist, and Lead UX Researcher. Attendees got the inside scoop on what different roles actually look like day-to-day, how to translate academic research experience into industry value, and practical advice for breaking into digital health. If you missed them, don’t worry—you can catch all the conversations on TYDE’s YouTube channel.
When we asked the interns about their experience, here’s what they said:
We also asked the mentors if they would recommend creating an internship with TYDE:
