Self-harm among young people is complex, yet few evidence-based interventions exist—and even fewer are co-produced with those affected. The Card Sort Task for Self-harm (CaTS) helps young people map thoughts, feelings, and events surrounding a self-harm episode.
On January 22nd, 2026, Dr. Joanna Lockwood and Dr. Camilla Babbage (MindTech Nottingham, UK) presented on how the CaTS-App was developed through three phases: consulting stakeholders and young people, co-designing a prototype with computer science partners, and now testing feasibility through dyad sessions in clinical settings. Co-production with lived experience groups, including our young person’s panel ‘Sprouting Minds’ and clinical professionals has been central throughout, ensuring the app meets the needs of the users. This journey highlights the value of collaboration in creating meaningful digital tools for mental health support.
CaTS-App is part of the Digital Youth programme grant which is hosted by the MindTech research centre in Nottingham, UK.
