Phaeton Gallery and the UVA Thriving Youth in the Digital Environment (TYDE) initiative were proud to present True Colors: Exploring Youth Mental Health and Digital Technology.
This thought-provoking art exhibit showcased student artwork that delved into the intersection of youth mental health and the digital world, and provided a powerful platform for young artists to express their experiences.
True Colors included work by local 7th-10th graders from local Albemarle county schools. The exhibit included a range of mediums and styles, and the pieces were remarkably profound. Local teen interns also supported the exhibit as curators to cultivate the gallery experience.
The exhibit was a collaboration between TYDE and the Phaeton Gallery. It was not only a chance for students to showcase their work, but also an invitation for the community to engage in critical discussions. There were interactive components, moments for reflection, and community resources.
Families, educators, and community members attended the opening reception on June 6 to support the students and explore the art on display. Light refreshments were provided.
